Originally from the island of Madagascar, these cockroaches routinely grow to over 2 inches in length, and hiss loudly when disturbed by expelling air through their spiracles. You might not believe it, but these horrendous-looking creatures are actually quite shy - and are great fun to handle! You can even make a pet of yours - once they become accustomed to being handled, they will no longer hiss. Leave them alone for a few weeks, however, and they'll be back to their characteristic hissing ways.
